Llangattock Green Valleys
With the support of Llangattock Green Valleys through funding secured by them through the Department of Climate Change (DECC) sponsored Local Energy Assessment Fund (LEAF) along with match funding kindly provided by the Brecon Beacons National Park’s Sustainable Development Fund.
Llangattock Green Valleys built a micro-hydro scheme on Glanusk Estate land in November 2014, known as Cwm Gu.
“We have recently completed some work at the intake of the scheme which involved reducing the size of something called the ‘Hands Off Flow notch’, through which some water always flows to ensure wildlife and vegetation downstream of the intake can stay alive, even in the driest of summers like we’ve had this year. As part of those works, NRW said we had to build a fish easement so that any migrating fish could make their way upstream.”
The following measures were installed under the project that took place over February and March of 2012:
> Voltage Optimisation
> Insulation
> Energy Monitors
> Air Source Heat Pump
LEAF project
The LEAF project has further demonstrated that a social enterprise in partnership with a country estate can achieve great things together where there is a common goal. With the recipients of the benefits achieving lower electricity bills and heating bills along with lowering their carbon footprint.
We look forward to working with Llangattock Green Valleys in the future to achieve even greater achievements through energy efficiency and generation measures.
